What distinguishes red light from near infrared light?
Clinical studies have demonstrated that red and near-infrared (NIR) light, both naturally occurring light types that originate from the sun, improve cellular performance. The primary distinction is that red light at 660 nm can significantly improve skin health and collagen formation while only penetrating the body up to a depth of around 5 to 10 mm. Between 50mm and 75mm deep in the body, near infrared light at 850nm is invisible to the human eye and provides energy and anti-inflammatory advantages that have been found to, among other things, speed up muscle recovery and lessen joint discomfort.
